Most of my session are very relaxed and focused on connection with each other but with a first birthday I am quite happy to add a special element to help celebrate this milestone. It’s a milestone not only for the child but for the parents. That first year can be a massive roller coaster, lets celebrate that cute darling of yours and the journey you have been on so far.

When it comes to capturing your little ones first birthday there are so many different options. You know your little one and what they are they like, keep these in mind when you are picking.

Relaxed Sunset Session

It’s an age of curiosity, when everything is new and full of wonder. You may find you just want to have your session focused on your little one exploring the outdoors and cuddles with a beautiful sunset behind you. Maybe your breast feeding journey is coming to an end and you want these special connection moments captured.

Fruit bath

Most little ones I meet love splashing around in water, throw in some bubbles or some fresh fruit and magic happens. These fruit baths can be added on if you are having an in-home session so that we can use warm water so your little one is nice and comfortable.

Cake Smash

What a fun way to end a session. First we will get some cute family cuddles and photos of your little one exploring outside and then we can bring out a cake for your little one to get stuck into.

Among the Flowers

If you have a little poppet that’s face lights up when they see flowers maybe a flower session is the perfect way to celebrate your little one. Don’t be afraid for your little one to get grubby and let their toes feel the earth and their curious fingers feel the petals.

Some things to think about

Try and relax, these little ones are only one after all and it might be they didn’t have the best sleep that day, they are teething, or feeling shy or hungry. There are so many things that can impact a little ones emotions. It might be all they want to do is snuggle with you and that’s what I will capture. If you are feeling relaxed and happy they will pick up on that.
Bring a drink of water and a non messy snack with you so that you little one doesn’t get hungry.
If your little one is wearing a dress or a skirt it is helpful if they have some little bloomers or tights on as well, so that the nappy isn’t sticking out in photos.
A lot of parents want to use a photo from their session for their first birthday invitation, if this is you make sure you book your session far enough in advance so that we can secure your date and so that you have your photos back in time to make your invites.
